The small-cap car dealer still trades on a steep discount to book.
In June I reviewed Vertu Motors ( LSE: VTU ), a small cap with a number of attractive value features. These consisted in particular of a substantial net cash position and a share price trading below tangible book, though it was not the full pyad job. Nevertheless I commented that in my view these two criteria were the more important of the four pillars of pyad, so the share was worth a look. I continue to believe that net cash and a Price/Tangible Book ratio under 1 are the cream of the value virtues for most plays.
Vertu has just released interim accounts for the six months to 31 August, so an update is worth considering, having regard to whether my previous value assessment has improved or deteriorated. The most obvious difference before I even consider the accounts is that the price has fallen a fair bit. It has a large spread of around 1.5p but comparing offer prices, it was 34p in June and stands now at 24p, a fall of 29%.
